Brenda was saved at the age of 9 years old and was reared in a Pastor's home. She and Theron met while in Bible college and she has been an integral part of the success of their ministry. Brenda plays the piano beautifully, having been the church pianist since their first pastorate. She and Theron also sing duets, with Theron also singing solos. Brenda has worked in the church office as an administrative assistant, something she was proficient in in the secular world. Along with her musical abilities, Brenda has extensive experience working with Children's Ministries, having overseen various programs such as Master Clubs, and leading the children's choirs and yearly Christmas programs. Her extensive ministry experience in these areas will surely be an asset in the planting of churches in the country of Nicaragua.
In March 2005, the Lord led the Crawford family to South Haven, Michigan, to start Bible Baptist Church. Within a short amount of time, The Lord had blessed and the ministry was needing to expand. Bible Baptist Church merged with Maple Grove Bible Church and formed Anchor Baptist Church in 2006, with Pastor Crawford as the pastor. The last 10 years, the church saw tremendous growth for a church in a small town. The entire 16,000 sq. ft. building was renovated, making it a beautiful facility for church work. Most importantly, many souls came to Christ and disciples were made, with many young people going off into full time Christian service. The church has a vibrant youth program, teen ministry, music program, addictions program, and jail ministry. Feel free to visit their website at www.myanchorbaptist.com
Theron had always felt called to missions, even entering college as a missions major. As an eighteen year old, he had even felt possibly called to the country of Nicaragua. He studied about their country, politics, and culture. But the Lord had a different path for he and Brenda, serving here in the US for the past 23 years. But the burden for the vast mission field never left his heart and every missions conference he would recommit his heart and life to the Lord's leading that direction, should He so desire.
In April 2013, Theron was invited to go on a missions trip to Nicaragua to see the vision of Project 14, a new ministry focusing evangelizing the country through a a multi-pronged approach to meet the spiritual, financial, and material needs of the people in the poorest country in Central America. While there, Theron's heart was touched in a very real way for the precious souls who lived in the Matagalpa region. While the people do live in a poorer environment in the mountains, he was more touched by the poor spiritual needs of the people. Many of the towns and villages fail to have any Gospel witness, let alone a church to go to worship. And while his heart was burdened, he knew it was not the Lord's will at that time to go to the mission field there.
Then in September of 2014, Anchor Baptist sent a missions team to Nicaragua, to help in maintenance and ministry opportunities through Project 14. While there, Brenda and Theron had their hearts moved as only God can do. They participated in community outreach, taught English classes, and met with local people and pastors. They spent much time in prayer while they were there in country, trying to determine if this was a burden to be more involved in Nicaragua, or a calling to leave the US and labor as missionaries. It was not long before they both knew that the Lord wanted them to resign their ministry in South Haven, and commit their time and energy to reaching the lost, training nationals, and planting churches in the beautiful country of Nicaragua.
Pastor Crawford and his wife, Brenda, have been married for over 25 years and they have 3 wonderful children, Theron Jr., Charissa, and Erik. Theron and Brenda have been serving in the ministry for the past 23 years, the last 10 of those years being in South Haven, MI.
Theron Sr. accepted Christ as Saviour at the age of 5 years old, being led to Christ by his father. After being called to preach at age 16, he attended Bible college for 2 years at the church where he was reared. He began his full time ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1992. He has faithfully served over the past 23 years as both Associate Pastor and in the Senior Pastor capacity in Michigan, North Carolina, and Missouri. He came to South Haven, MI in March of 2005, having been led of the Lord to start a church in this area. His life verse is Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” It is this belief that drives him in his service to His Savior.
